Liberalism Unleashed…

How much better will your family be in the coming months with an additional income of $4 to $9 each week. I’m sure that for some Americans 9 bucks is very meaningful but to most Americans it will not significantly improve the quality of their lives. $4 to $9 per week is approximately what you can expect for your family’s share of the $750,000,000,000 (Billion. One billion is 100 million!) Stimulus Bill President Obama signed into law moments ago.

The American way of life throughout our history has been that each passing generation has left a more hopeful future, a future with more opportunity, for the coming generations. Today, we took the first of what is promised to be only the first step of assuring that our grandchildren and great grandchildren will pay dearly for our failures at the expense of their futures.

When any government spends money it doesn’t have on hand there are limited sources of obtaining funds. The first and most loved by liberals is tax hikes. That is not the answer today, not now. It will be the case, but not now, the timing is not right. The next option is to borrow the money and pay it back with interest. We have chosen the second option for the short term and some time down the road huge tax increases are as sure as death.

A small fraction of this bill will possibly create jobs. The overwhelming bulk of this unprecedented spending bill is an array of entitlement programs that have long been on the wish list of every Democrat. In fact this bill includes some only recently dreamed up that are astonishing. Today the tentacles of government have grown expediently and will start to tighten their grip on the American people squeezing out individualism, entrepreneurship, and self reliance in favor of dependency, socialism, and an entitlement society.

If this plan turns out to be good (as I’m sure all of its supporters and crafters sincerely hope) President Obama and Democrats in general are destined to be praised and reelected. But if it fails to achieve its lofty goals President Obama will be a one term President.

What should frighten every American is that by his own promise, President Obama has made it clear this bill is only the first of more to come. How much will prove to be too much? Only time will tell. My own sense is that we are sliding toward becoming a country akin to the European Socialist schemes that have been tried and have failed.

We have long been morally bankrupt, now we are moving at warp speed toward being owned by those who hold our national debt. “The debtor is slave to the lender” will sadly be more true than ever. I sincerely hope this boondoggle works, but I am not hopeful that it will.

For most of our 232 years as a nation the two party system has served us well. But when Republicans started to govern like liberal Democrats our nation took a nose dive and the control tower has not seemed to notice. Perhaps when whats left is smoke and ashes we will be shocked into reality. For that flight, reading the data from the black box is too late.

President Obama, Change I can’t believe in

The morning after President Obama’s inauguration I typed http://whitehouse.gov into my web browser and clicked on the tab labeled “Agenda”. For several minutes I read item after item and thought to myself, man are we in a heap of trouble. In the few days since then the national news has spoken in some detail about Executive Orders by the President and their impact on our country. So far, this is change I can’t believe in.

They are dated January 22, 2009

The people who are very pleased with this agenda of change thay want you to believe in, other than liberal Democrats, are our sworn enemies. We can no longer extract  information using methods that are clearly effective. That is immoral. However, it is moral to kill them. So in the mind of Mr. Obama it is better to kill than to water board an enemy combatant. Will this part of the “Agenda” of the President make us more safe, or less safe? I can’t believe in this kind of change.

The prison for war criminals at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba will be closed in one year. Neither the President nor any of his administration knows where the prisoners will go when it is closed. Will they be freed? Will they be brought to America? Will they be given all the rights of due process American citizens enjoy? Will we fly in radical Islam fanatics so they can have a jury of their peers? This is not change I can believe in.

And, the President, by a stroke of his pen, insured that your tax dollars and mine will be used to kill unborn babies around the world. President Regan made it illegal for U.S. taxpayer money to be used for abortion in places where we provide foreign aid. President Clinton reversed that by executive order. President Bush put it back into effect, and now President Obama has reversed policy once more. Now a portion of your tax dollars and mine can fund the murder of unborns, not only here in the U.S., the mecca of infanticide, but around the world. This is not change I can believe in.

To his discredit, President Bush and President Obama believe our weakening economy can be cured by massive government spending the likes of which history has not ever seen. The U.S. government does not create jobs except for government jobs that we have to pay for. President Obama is pushing some tax cuts and some welfare checks called tax cuts but remember you heard it here, tax hikes are coming. I don’t know how long it will be before reality sets in but there is no other solution to deficits in the trillions for the near future at a minimum. This is change I can’t believe in.

I will give the President credit for one thing. He said as a candidate what he intended to do and he is only keeping his campaign promises.

Wanted: Youth Minister Summer Intern

Early each Sunday morning Daphne German and other members of the Hemley Rd church of Christ in Bayou La Batre, Alabama drive donated church vans all around the area picking up kids who are eager to attend church and Sunday school. By the dozens they come, Sunday a.m., Sunday p.m. and even on Wednesday nights they are there. They know they will be loved, taught about Jesus, and the right way to live… and be fed.

Bayou La Batre is a fishing community southwest of Mobile. Most of the residents are living way below the poverty level. But the children who have been touched by the people of the Hemley Rd congregation are full of hope. And, they need a leader. They need somebody to work with them this summer, to teach the Bible, to teach them life skills, and just to love them. Is that somebody you? Do you know a young man who might be interested?

The young man must have his own support. Last summer a young man was there for the summer and did a wonderful job. He was supported by his home church. They want and need a man who is able to teach the Bible, a leader, who is not afraid of hard work. If you know of such a young man who wants some experience as a youth minister, who is grace oriented and loves Jesus, please let me know. Or you can contact Mrs. Daphne German at daphnegerman@hotmail.com or call 251.609.0448.

The folks at Hemley Rd church are wonderful people. Both the White’s Ferry Road church of Christ in West Monroe, LA. and the El Campo church of Christ in El Campo, Texas are proud to be partners in the gospel with them. If you have a chance to visit  you will never forget them.

Why not ask your young people to pray regularly for the children of Bayou La Batre who need Christ, the love of others, and hope for the future? They need the prayers and your kids need the practice.

Finally, I know of no better place for your mission giving. Recently two generous congregations gave large gifts, almost enough for the first air conditioner for the church building, and another purchased a hemleyrd1baptistery. What great blessings and answers to prayer! But the needs are still great. The expenses of running 3 vans each service, utilities, insurance, and food for the children and the food pantry…. and the list goes on. Will you ask our Lord if you should help too?

Thanks in advance for your consideration of this worthy cause for Christ and those He loves.

His peace,
Royce

Buckle Up, Save a Life

buckle-up

In my state of Louisiana the state police estimate that 25% of all occupants in motor vehicles on our highways do not wear their seat belts. But, 68% of all motor vehicle fatalities are unrestrained by seat belts. The addition of alcohol and drug use while driving make it even more likely that you will die if you do not wear your seat belt.

Why do people continue to ride unrestrained? I doubt the reason is ignorance. Seat belt use has been law in most states for several years and numerous groups have advertised the danger of not being restrained in a moving vehicle. Are people stupid? Perhaps a few are. The most likely case is that people are just irresponsible.

What ever the cause, flirting with death is not a smart choice. The cure is so simple. If you are not habitually wearing your seat belt, put a sticky note on your dash, tie a string on your finger, put you ignition key in the seat belt buckle, or whatever will remind you and do it for 10 days and it will likely become a habit. We all are creatures of habit, some good and some bad, Why not force yourself to create a good, lifesaving habit?

Finally, please, please make sure children in your care are properly restrained. Don’t take a chance with those little ones. Death is final.

Buckle up, Save a Life!
