Faith 101

Over the past several months I have written what I thought were some pretty good posts and they hardly got a look. I am astounded that the number 1 post of all time on Grace Digest is one about Gov. Sarah Palen. She is still a headline maker and we aren’t done seeing her smiling face on national TV just yet.

Interestingly, most of the readers of posts ranked 2 and 3 are from the African continent, and over whelmingly so. I wonder why that is?

Just as interesting, the post ranked in 5th place has drawn mostly readers from the British Isles, perhaps as much as 85 to 90%.

Not surprisingly a short series on the Deity of Jesus and other similar posts hardly got a notice. Some of those topics I am most passionate about, and am sure are largely neglected by most Christian bloggers, are perhaps not posted for a reason; no one reads them.

One would reason that blogs in the category of “Christian” and with largely a church of Christ readership would have some posts about the foundations of the historic Christian faith but alas a cappella singing, discussions about how many ways a Christian can be lost and why, how church A does something different than church B and who is in and who is out because of it continue to get top billing.

I once asked on my blog why was it necessary for Jesus to be born of a virgin. One fellow said “I’ll have to think about it and get back to you” and that was about it. Most of what I am seeing on “Christian blogs” is at best “theology lite”; Not all, but most.

I know mine is far from being among the best blogs but I do enjoy the exercise and when I get an occasional private message or email from someone who says they have been helped or encouraged by reading I know it is not completely in vain.

Trey Morgan, John Dobbs, Patrick Mead, Jay Guinn and others have great blogs, some of them with very intersting glimpses into the lives of their families, friends, and their interests. I enjoy those very much. At 64 years and counting down, my life is far too boring  to open the window very often.

Thanks for reading and for your encouragement.

for Jesus,

The Price of Freedom

Soon to be leaders of the free world.

If they govern as President and Vice President like they did as U.S. Senators we could be in for a wild ride in the next several months. No U.S. Senators can honestly claim to be more liberal, leftist than these two. But, they are ours and I wish them well. I tried to change the channel but this isn’t Saturday night live…

The highest and the lowest.

Keith Olberman can rightfully claim to be the chief Bush hater in America. No other TV blabber even comes close to him when it comes to hating W.

Chris Matthews keeps the bottom of cable news ratings sewed up solidly. The only way his ratings can rise is if someone can figure a way to produce a show on MSNBC that is actually more awful than his.

On top!

Bill O’Reilly’s O’Reilly Factor on the Fox News Network owns cable TV. He is number one consistently. Only Bill’s ego out paces his TV ratings. I’ll admit it, I watch and mostly agree with his positions. But when he is wrong he is really wrong!

Thanks for the miseries guys.

Thanks to the warped views of reality by these two, Sen. Barney Frank and Sen. Chris Dodd we have as their gift the housing/mortgage meltdown. They jointly insisted that home ownership is a right of every American if they could pay for it or not. Now we taxpayers are paying.

3 Things that will not go away; Death, Taxes, and Hillary

She is a stand by her man kind of a gal. Meet the new Sec. of State. She does know how to get along with others. I think she will actually be very good at this job. I wish her well.

Uh…You know…um…can I use a life line?

This Camelot kid is not ready for prime time. She has the name, plenty of connections, and tons of cash but she can’t seem to put a complete sentence together without the school girl fillers. Please, enough Kennedy’s!

In 2007, only President George Bush was hated more than Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Why was she so hated? If I knew the correct answer to that question I could then explain liberals and why they think and act as they do.

Now the show is over and Gov Palin is quietly doing her job, and very well. She will be back…

He an’t no Billy Graham

For now the news media is slobbering all over Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback church in California. He will give the inauguration prayer for Obama in spite of the outcry from the girlie boys. Up to now Warren has navigated the shark infested waters of the national media rather well. He is a good man with a great message but comparisons to Billy Graham are a bit over the top.

Quiet! …. Auctioneer at work

This Chicago politician decided to auction off Mr. Obama’s U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder and got caught. He still doesn’t seem to understand what all the fuss is about. Gov. Blagojevich is just one of a host of legendary crooked governors and others who hail from the windy city. They make Louisiana politics look like nursery school. The Gov’s next photo might have Dept of Correction numbers at the bottom. Let’s hope so. That is if he is guilty of course.

This man knows something about hot air!

Former Vise Vice President Albert Gore has contributed more hot air to the planet than any other man alive. Gore should give back the Nobel Prize since he was selected based on a fraud. Global Warming has been soundly disproved. Why anyone would believe anything the “inventor of the Internet” said is beyond me. Go back to being a slum lord Mr. Gore, you are better suited for that job.

HATED

The hatred for this good man is unlike anything I have ever seen in my almost 64 years. Could it be that he is “America first” in international policy matters, or that he is one of those ignorant Christians who actually believe the Bible? Whatever the reasons he has been the favorite person to hate for the last 8 years.

Not one of his critics to my knowledge factor in the events of 9-11 and the resulting effects on the world and our country. Hypocrites  by the dozens get red in the face about his sending our troops into Iraq yet they supported just that very thing. Almost to the  last one, those elected officials who have been the hardest on President Bush are two faced liars with poll driven morals and wouldn’t know the truth if it stared them in the face.

History will be more kind to President George W. Bush than you might think. His lasting legacy will be that we have not had another attack since 9-11. I have disagreed with him more than any other President I have ever voted for but he is a good man and deserves respect for his service to our country.

The Palen pick, risky or brilliant?

Right away the expected criticism came from every corner, “She doesn’t have enough experience to be a heart beat away from the presidency!” Interesting observation in view of the fact she has more as a VP candidate than the presidential candidate on the Democratic ticket.

Here are the pros and con’s as I see them:

  • Executive experience. Governor of Alaska, Mayor of her hometown.
  • Pro Life. Gave birth to the last of her 5 children knowing he had down’s syndrome
  • Pro 2nd Amendment. Lifetime member of the NRA
  • Proven tax cutter
  • Experienced at using the veto pen to reign in wasteful spending
  • Roots out corruption even in her own party
  • Attractive. Was runner up in an Alaska beauty pageant
  • Smart. Able to speak several coherent sentences in a row without reading them. Only Joe (the mouth) Biden can do that better.
  • Hunter and angler
  • Rides snowmobiles
  • Likes the United States Military. Her son will deploy to Iraq on Sept 11th.
  • Respects her husband of 20 years even in public!

Con’s:

  • She is not at the top of the ticket.
  • Uhhh……….hmmmm….can’t think of any more

This is very bad news for the Obama ticket. Woman will really like her and since ladies by the millions were left swinging after the demise of Hillary, she will undoubtedly bring many of them to the Republican column in November. McCain’s choice of this talented lady is a gut punch to Sen. Obama and his team. Expert were predicting a 10 point lead for him by next week, it an’t gonna happen. The spread is 8 points at this moment but wait until this time next week. This will be a repeat of what happened in 2000 when Gore’s lead went to about 10 points after he announced Joseph Leiberman as his running mate but in only a few days the reace was a dead heat and he lost in the end.

McCain has been a huge disappointment for me and millions of other conservatives and in view of that I believe this was the smartest thing he has done thus far. Palen disagrees with him on global warming and I expect her to also disagree on immigration reform. She is a nice balance to the GOP ticket and I really believe she may prove to be the key to a victory in November.

If McCain-Palen looses in November we haven’t seen the last of this special lady. I would love to see a Hillary vs. Palen battle for the white house. On one side a career politician who will do or say whatever the polls require to win and on the other a lady who is not in the least politically correct. One one side someone who pretends to be pro second amendment and on the other a lady who kills animals and eats them. One who is married to a liar and womanizer….oh whats the point of going there, there is no contest.

This is my favorite time of the year! Hand to hand combat in the political arena. I can’t wait ’til Monday.

On a different and somber note. I hope the storm calms and causes no major damage. Louisiana and the Gulf coast is just getting on their collective feet, we don’t need another hit now.
