Good post, Royce - and so true.

My sermon yesterday was from the Pharisee and the Tax Collector. My point was that the Pharisee may have had right some of the things that dishonored God (with the exception of being a tax collector - but, then again, I don't know His view of the IRS) and some of the things that pleased God, but he presumed upon God that doing/not doing those things justified him before God. He had the mechanics of "WHAT" down pat, but he completely missed the organics of "WHY."

Also, we (or at least I) always assume the Tax Collector has done something terrible because of his prayer, but what's to say he hasn't done MORE to please God than the Pharisee and is still praying that prayer? He seems to have a greater understanding of the heart of the gospel (the organic side of our faith), even if he doesn't appear to be the most 'religious' person in the synagogue that day.

Keep up the good work, Royce!
