Royce, thanks again. As usual, you offer great thoughts.

When I read your article, I thought of a video I saw years ago from a lectureship. The preacher about to be introduced was described as 'a hard preacher.' It was said his preaching was so 'hard' that many could not handle it and left for other churches. It was then said with such obvious pride that his preaching was validated by the fact that some men were asked to be elders in other churches who were not worthy to be regular members at the preacher's congregation.

After so many years, I am still amazed at how putting a legal noose around the necks of people is 'right and noble;' and, how tightening that noose is somehow Godly.

Thanks for the Matthew 7 reminder; it's one of my favorite chapters; I need to read it more often. God bless.

I have always thought that verse says much to those who think their place, name etc. means they will be saved.

Good post.

Mr. Waters who commented above, has a great website, I recommend it. (www.livingforjesus.com) This is interesting. The source of his material on his site is by the Bible Heritage Foundation and is excellent. It is not what I would have expected. It teaches exactly what I believe so far as a brief look could tell.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. May God Bless your efforts.

<em><strong>Thank you Dell. To some folks I am a bad person because I want desperately for all people, but especially those who claim Jesus as Lord, to put their whole trust in Jesus and not in themselves. If this is my crime I joyfully own it.

faith without works is dead. you understanding of scripture is limited. the bible speaks a lot of those who fall away or are cut off because they refused to walk the way jesus instructed us to. it is true jesus alonne is the savior it is true that he forgives sin, but to say you know him and walk in darkness is a sham and hypocrisy. We are instructed to walk worthy of him. If you live like hell and expect to make it to heaven you are greatly mistaken.

<strong><em>We do have common ground on some things. Jesus is the only way to heaven. We agree. If you say you know him and walk in darkenss it is a sham and hypocrisy. We agree. If you live like hell and expect to make it to heaven you are greatly mistaken. Again, we agree.

Those who have been saved by grace, trusting in Christ alone, will be different and will follow Him. Those who don't live the life He has instructed are not saved, and have not been saved. Jesus said of those (sheep) who know Him and listen to His voice, "..and another they WILL NOT FOLLOW". Here is where you and I disagree. You believe God's final approval of you will be based partly on what Christ has done and partly on how well you have lived. I believe I am acquitted of all charges, forgiven, justified by God's decree, and given eternal life, completely upon the worth and work of Jesus on my behalf. My obedience, my good works, my love for Him and my love for those he loves is because I am saved, not the cause of my being saved.

I refuse to believe that what Jesus clearly said over and over is not true. For instance, Jesus' words recorded in John 6:40 "For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day." "Everyone" can only mean "everyone". "Should have" can only mean what it says. "I will raise him up.." is plain, easy to understand. If what you say is true, what Jesus said is not true. This is only one of many such statements made by Jesus and confirmed by the Aoostles that are either true and believable or they are not. I choose to believe them, trust in Christ alone for my standing before God, and put NO confidence in the flesh and what it can accomplish.
